Providing Clients With Superior Workers' Compensation Navigation

From deductible programs and advocacy-based claims to risk management portals and compliance tools — everything we do is built for temporary staffing firms.

Insurance Programs

Temporary Staffing Workers' Compensation Insurance

There are several types of Workers' Compensation plans available. At Nixer Comp, we strive to find solutions that are the best fit for our client-insureds. This may mean utilizing a traditional Guaranteed Cost policy; however, due to the success of our Program Pillars and strategic partnerships, our focus is in providing Staffing firms with a Workers' Comp Deductible plan which achieves better results for our client-insureds.

Small & Intermediate Deductible Plan

Small or Intermediate Deductible Plans allow an employer to retain a portion of each loss by means of a deductible. The insurance carrier is responsible for the management and payment of losses, and bills back the costs below the deductible to the employer.

A well-constructed and monitored deductible Workers' Compensation plan can provide a meaningful reduction in an employer's total cost of risk.

Large Deductible Program

Large Deductible Plans allow the employer to take on most financial responsibilities of a loss while remaining insured. Deductibles are per-accident/per-employee and billed on a paid, not incurred, basis. Deductible amounts vary by state.

  • Increased Cash Flow
  • Loss-control and return-to-work incentives
  • Easy access and exit
  • Possible tax savings

Our Program Pillars — from superior risk management strategies to claims advocacy and handling, consistent post-accident programs, return-to-work programs and positive involvement with the injured worker — produce a safe working environment and help reduce and control an employer's losses and therefore costs. With Nixer Comp, client-insureds can grow from a Small Deductible to an Intermediate Deductible and/or Large Deductible Plan as they reap the benefits of our risk management and claims strategies.

Claims Program

Advocacy-Based Claims Program

Consumer experience drives engagement, satisfaction and loyalty, and it's no different with Workers' Compensation. Instead of viewing a claim as an adversarial relationship between the employer and an injured temporary worker, our approach is one of advocacy where we put the employee first.

This approach is a win-win for both the employees and Temporary Staffing firm. Injured workers are reassured that their interests in getting better are a priority and employers benefit from a true partnership with their employees who understand the claims process and actively participate in their path to recovery.

To obtain the full benefits of our Advocacy-Based Claims model, Nixer Comp asks client-insureds to commit to our short and long-term strategies. When utilized, Nurse Triage recommends self-care about 20% of the time, which greatly reduces frequency and overall costs.

Our Definition of Advocacy

  • Communication
  • Transparency
  • Expectation-Setting
  • Objectivity
  • Generational Awareness
Partnership

Claims Handling Acumen & Expectations

What makes the Advocacy-Based Claims Model work in the Nixer Comp Program is cooperation from — and collaboration with — our client-insureds. We ask clients to commit to short- and long-term strategies that we have developed and utilized throughout the years to deliver tangible results.

This involves bringing Nixer Comp in on the decision-making process early so we can assess how changes may impact a client's risk profile and ultimately their Workers' Compensation plan. To make our program work, our client-insureds commit to each of our Program Pillars and undertake certain measures to facilitate the claims process and help injured workers get back to work.

Reporting

24-Hour Claims Reporting

One of our critical Program Pillars is helping to train the Staffing firm and its host-employers on proper claims reporting requirements, including reporting a claim within 24 hours of the known injury.

Reporting immediately helps:

  • Get the injured worker proper treatment
  • Control medical expenses and reduce benefit delays
  • Minimize time out of work
  • Facilitate investigation and identify fraud
  • Mitigate potential litigation

During the initial call, our Nurse Triage partner determines the best course of action — from telemedicine to urgent care visits with proper medical treatment authorizations. Nixer Comp will review all reported claims and forward to our TPA, CCMSI, as needed.

Wallet Card

Claims Reporting Wallet Card

Nixer Comp provides Claims Reporting Wallet Cards to each client-insured's employees, delivered to the policyholder's corporate location and each satellite location. Cards are available in English and Spanish and list contact information for the Account Executive and Claims Coordinator.

Millions of dollars are wasted every year because temporary workers and host-employers are not informed about claims-handling expectations. The Wallet Cards help reduce late reporting and non-reporting — when claims are reported late, average claim costs go up and investigations may be compromised.

Recovery

Return-To-Work Program

Our third-party return-to-work partner, ReEmployAbility, helps accommodate injured and recovering workers by identifying or modifying jobs aligned with their physical capacities. Nixer Comp is committed to early return-to-work as it facilitates recovery while reducing the likelihood of permanent disability.

Transition2Work® Benefits:

  • Retain valuable workers through light-duty volunteer work at nonprofits
  • Reduce indemnity costs impacting experience modification
  • Keep employees connected to company and community
Fraud Prevention

Fraud Identification Recovery Edge & Reward Program

Workers' Compensation fraud is estimated to cost businesses billions annually. At Nixer Comp, we partnered with CoventBridge's Fraud Identification Recovery Edge (FIRE) and Reward Program to identify offenders and eliminate fraudulent threats.

If the investigation results in a criminal conviction, any employee who reported the fraudulent activity will be eligible for a cash award up to $10,000 payable by Nixer Comp. Nixer Comp will also provide Fraud Awareness information, including posters, for distribution to employees.

Host Employers

Host-Employer Claims Kit Request System

Favorable claim outcomes begin with reporting within 24 hours. Our CDR System automatically creates a complete claims-kit, tailored to the host employer and jobsite location when an approval determination is processed.

Each claims kit includes:

  • Host-Employer Claims Handling Instructions & Contact Information
  • OSHA Protecting Employees & Reporting Requirements
  • Incident & Accident Triage Instructions
  • Accident Investigation Instructions & Reports
  • Witness Incident & Accident Report
Classifications

Classification Determination Rating Request System

One of the hallmarks behind the great results we get is determining the appropriate class code assignment for each employee. Verifying and applying the correct class code to temporary placements is critical in projecting accurate Workers' Compensation premiums.

Client-insureds submit class-code requests via our web-based CDR portal. If approved, the host-employer, jobsite, job assignment, determined code and rate are endorsed to the policy — streamlining the Final Premium Audit process.

Hiring Practices

The Value of Post-Offer Medical Questionnaires

While not a requirement of the Nixer Comp Program, we recommend that client-insureds utilize a Post-Offer Medical Questionnaire (POMQ) as part of their hiring practices. A POMQ helps an employer understand if an individual is capable of completing the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Determine physical qualifications for the offered job
  • Seek medical professional judgment when needed
  • Focus on accommodations for job functions
  • Place employees without risk of injury to themselves or others
Joint Employers

Contract Language for Staffing Agency & Host-Employer

Nixer Comp understands the complexities and responsibilities Temporary Staffing companies and host-employers have as joint employers. Both firms are responsible for providing a safe working environment for temporary workers, as mandated by OSHA.

Nixer Comp has developed contractual language for these agreements, with an emphasis on duties of the Host-Employer and joint safety responsibilities between Client-Insured and Host-Employer.

We strongly encourage client-insureds to discuss the terms we provide with their legal counsel and incorporate them in their written agreements with each of their host-employers.
